Burna Boy, Tems, Ayra Starr and Chimamanda Adichie make Nigerians proud at the 2025 Met Gala

Nigerian music stars Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Tems and award-winning author Chimamanda Adichie have made Nigerians proud at the 2025 Met Gala.

On Monday, May 6th, the biggest fashion event in the world returned in full force with the biggest names and forces in the industry from fashion, entertainment, movies, modelling, and more industry gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Costume Institute in New York.

For those who don’t know, the Met Gala or Met Ball is an annual fundraising gala to benefit the Museum of Arts. The event has become fashion’s bug night out, and only the industry’s top players score an invite.

This year’s Met Gala honoured black men. The theme was Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The official dress code is “Tailored for You,” a nod to the spring 2025 exhibition’s focus on menswear. According to Vogue, it is “purposefully designed to provide guidance and invite creative interpretation. “

Rihanna and her boyfriend ASAP Rocky, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, Teyana Taylor, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Gigi Hadid, Megan Thee Stallion, Doechi, Zendaya, and others channelled their inner black magic.

Nigerian artists Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Tems, and author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie were also present at the prestigious event.

For his return to the Met Gala, Burna Boy wore a red tuxedo with an oxblood eelskin cape. The singer was styled by Ozwald Boateng, the first Black designer with a prestigious Savile Row storefront.

Tems, for her part, wore a blue and green tailored mermaid vest gown, a blue pinstriped collared shirt, a bow, and an umbrella. Her look was designed by Ozwald Boateng.

Unlike Burna Boy and Tems, who have been to the Met before, this was Ayra Starr’s first Met Gala, and she wore a black leather dress with a walking stick.

Chimamanda Adichie, making her first debut, wore an elegant red ball-like dress.

These undoubtedly made Nigerians proud.
