The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Zamfara, says it is impressed with the turnout of voters during the state assembly by-election in Kaura Namoda South Constituency.
Speaking to newsmen at Kasuwar-Daji Primary School Polling Unit, Yusuf Idris,
the Publicity Secretary, described the voter turnout at the election as ‘large and commendable’
Idris also described the process as peaceful and orderly, saying, “we have been here since morning, we have been monitoring the election. The process is peaceful’
He commended officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission for arriving early at the polling units, and conducting themselves in a responsible manner.
The APC spokesman said that security personnel reported quite early for election duty in order to ensure law and order at polling units.
“As a party, we cautioned our members to remain peaceful and orderly during the exercise. We are hoping that the process will remain peaceful till the end,” Idris said.
Idris, however, alleged that there were pockets of interferences on the process by personnel of the Community Protection Guard (CPG), a Zamfara Government-owned security outfit.
He said that it was wrong for CPG personnel to participate in the exercise despite a subsisting police order.
“The police command in the state has banned local security outfits such as CPG from participating in election activities.
“I see no reason why CPG personnel should be allowed around the election venue. We urge security agencies to take note of this in order to avoid any disruption of the process,” he said.
Also speaking to newsmen at Magaji Polling Unit in Maguru Town, the Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Dauda Lawal on Media, Malam Mustafa Jafaru-Kaura, described the election as peaceful.
“We have been here since morning, we have no record of any violence, the election is moving on smoothly.
Jafaru-Kaura said it was untrue that CPG personnel participated in the election process, saying, “since we came here, I have not seen any CPG personnel”
“The state government did not deploy any CPG personal to the poling units, that allegation is baseless,” he said.(NAN)
