The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the state government are currently at loggerheads over the naming of a project in honour of Hon. Musliudeen Olaide Akinremi.
DAILY POST gathered that Akinremi, until his death, was representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives in Abuja.
The lawmaker was elected on the platform of APC during the 2019 and 2023 general elections.
Our correspondent reports that the bye-election to fill the vacant position has been fixed to hold on Saturday, 16th August this year.
Both the APC and the state government, led by Engineer Seyi Makinde, are currently at loggerheads.
The APC, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Olawale Sadare, condemned what it described as the orchestrated commissioning of a purported Housing Estate project by Governor Seyi Makinde.
Sadare, in the statement made available to DAILY POST on Wednesday, said that the project billed to be commissioned today is an afterthought.
He alleged that Makinde is trying to use the name of the deceased lawmaker to cover up the fraudulent conversion of the state-owned Trans Amusement Park in Ibadan into private housing estates.
He said, “Erecting a gatehouse on a public land being put up for sale is not a project to be commissioned by any serious government.
“Also, it must be noted that the late Akinremi had immortalized himself with the empowerment of constituents and bringing of good projects to his constituency while he was alive, and to this end, Gov. Makinde’s badly scripted gimmick in naming the estates expected on the grabbed land after him (Akinremi) is tantamount to dancing on his grave in the name of politicking.”
