Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has convened a meeting with some aggrieved aspirants who contested the just concluded primary election to fill the vacant position in Ibadan North Federal Constituency.

DAILY POST gathered that the meeting was held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Friday.

Our correspondent reports that the bye-election in the federal constituency will hold on Saturday 16th August, 2025.

The election became necessary following the death of the last occupant of the seat, Hon Musliudeen Olaide Akinremi.

Akinremi, a member of All Progressives Congress, APC, died last year.

It was learnt that the party had earlier said that it has picked Adewale Haastrup Olatunji as its candidate for the election.

This however made some aspirants to kick against the process.

The aspirants under the umbrella of United Ibadan North Federal Constituency Aspirants Forum, while speaking at a press briefing held at Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Secretariat, Iyaganku in Ibadan on Monday, insisted that Olatunji has never been the candidate of the party.

Saheed Aderounmu, who spoke on behalf of other aspirants described Olatunji’s nomination as a gross violation of democratic principles and the rule of law. He submitted that any attempt to insist on Olatunji as the party’s candidate in the bye-election would be counter productive.

Our correspondent however reports that Adelabu who is also from the state has met the aggrieved aspirants. The meeting was also attended by some chieftains of the party.

Adelabu, at the meeting, appealed to the aspirants to support the party’s choice.

A member of APC campaign council for the election, Opeyemi Adesokan, spoke on the outcome of the meeting.

He said, “All aggrieved aspirants in the just concluded APC party primary, with the intervention of the Honorable of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu OFR, have agreed to work for the success of the party in the coming Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election.”
