REMO Stars have progressed into the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League after defeating US Zilimadjou of Comoros 1-0 in Abeokuta today.

With the victory, the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions advanced 5-0 on aggregate to set up a tricky tie with South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns.

Both legs of the tie between Remo Stars and Zilimadjou were played in Abeokuta since there is no suitable stadium in Comoros to host one of the matches.

Alex Oyowah scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot 16 minutes from time as Remo Stars cruised through at the MKO Abiola Stadium.

The other NPFL representatives in this season’s CAF Champions League, Rivers United, will host Les Aigles du Congo of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the second leg of their first preliminary round tie on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Rivers United held Les Aigles du Congo to a 0-0 draw in the first leg in DR Congo last Saturday and Finidi George’s side will look to finish the job on Sunday.

In the CAF Confederation Cup, Kwara United welcome Ghana’s Asante Kotoko to the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta on Sunday aiming to overturn a 4-3 defeat from the first leg in Accra last Sunday.

Also in the CAF Confederation Cup, Abia Abia Warriors face a tough second leg against Djoliba of Mali away after the first leg ended 1-1.
