Calling for a Renewal and a new Birth

ENVIRONMENT WATCH.avif

In this same spirit of Christmas, I invite us to pause and pay renewed attention to our environment—especially to nature. We are, after all, products of our environment, and it is often difficult for a people to rise above the very environment they create. As the adage reminds us: as you make your bed, so you lie on it

A NEW birth beckons—for an attitudinal change in our response to our environment.

Today is Christmas Day, and I felicitate with all my readers, wishing you a very Merry Christmas.

Christmas comes bearing good tidings for all mankind: that a Saviour was born to take away the sins of the world and to reconcile us to the Father. It is a season of renewal, hope, and restoration.

I believe that before the foundation of the world, the earth was formless and chaotic. But when the Spirit hovered, order was restored. From chaos came beauty. From disorder came purpose.

In this same spirit of Christmas, I invite us to pause and pay renewed attention to our environment—especially to nature. We are, after all, products of our environment, and it is often difficult for a people to rise above the very environment they create. As the adage reminds us: as you make your bed, so you lie on it.

Our environment shapes us. It defines us. Ultimately, it reflects who we are as a people.

When God created the Garden of Eden, He entrusted it to man with a simple but profound instruction: to tend it and to keep it—knowing fully well that all He created was for the good of mankind. Keeping and tending speak to order, care, maintenance, nourishment, and nurture of the God-given nature bestowed upon us.

Without being sanctimonious on this Environment Thursday, I beseech us—by the mercies of God—to embrace our environment with love; to keep it salubrious; to make it orderly, clean, and pollution-free. After all, cleanliness is next to godliness.

Beloved, climate change is not a hoax, nor is global warming a figment of imagination. Let us, as much as lies within our power, obey the 5Rs and ensure that we leave the earth better than we met it.

From chaos to order. From neglect to stewardship. From indifference to care.
