The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has described this year’s Christmas as a rare and emotional moment for Nigerian Christians, as he praised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as a job well done.
Speaking after a visit to the President, the CAN president revealed that for the first time in many years, church leaders were not woken up by midnight distress calls reporting attacks on churches.
“This Christmas is the first Christmas in many years that we were not woken with a phone call at midnight to say that a church was attacked,” he said.
According to him, the development is a testimony worth sharing, especially considering the long history of insecurity that has often overshadowed festive periods in the country.
He added that while the moment is worth celebrating, prayers are ongoing to ensure that the peace experienced is not temporary but sustained.
“We hope and pray that this will continue,” he added.
While many Nigerians welcomed the message with cautious optimism, others noted that long-term security remains the true measure of progress.
For now, however, the absence of midnight distress calls this Christmas is being seen as a moment of relief and renewed hope.
