The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State has condemned the recent attack on St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area.
Rev. Bulus Yohanna, Chairman of CAN in Niger, made the disclosure in a statement issued from Minna on Friday.
Yohanna expressed deep concern over the abduction of pupils, students, teachers, and a security guard during the attack, which he said occurred between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m.
The gunmen reportedly shot the security guard before taking their victims.
Describing the incident as “distressing and unacceptable,” Yohanna, who also serves as the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, emphasised the trauma faced by the victims’ families and the urgent need for their safe return.
He added that CAN is collaborating with security agencies, community leaders, and government authorities to support ongoing rescue efforts.
Yohanna also appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with security operatives, urging Christians and all Nigerians to pray for the swift and safe release of the abducted individuals.
Affirming the association’s commitment to the protection of children and improved school security, he said, “May the Lord grant quick release to those abducted and continue to protect His people from all dangers.”
