A woman has filed a lawsuit against American rapper, Cardi B, accusing her of assault, battery, and negligence during a performance in Las Vegas in 2023.
Naijaonpoint reports that the incident, which took place at Drai’s Beachclub, gained wide attention online after Cardi B was seen throwing a microphone into the crowd.
According to Page Six, the complaint was filed on Monday, July 21, by a concertgoer identified as Jane Doe.
She claimed that the microphone struck her without warning, causing physical pain and emotional distress.
According to her, the unexpected action happened after someone from the crowd splashed water on the rapper while she was performing her hit song “Bodak Yellow.”
Although Cardi B had earlier responded playfully to being splashed by water, the woman alleged that things changed suddenly when the artiste, reacting in anger, threw the mic directly into the audience.
The woman said the impact led to injuries and embarrassment, especially since the clip went viral and the same microphone was later auctioned online for almost $100,000.
The lawsuit also held the event organizers, Drai’s Management Group, responsible for not providing adequate security to prevent the situation from escalating.
She pointed to another incident the night before where Cardi B allegedly threw a microphone at a DJ, saying there was reason to take precautions.
This case comes long after law enforcement closed the matter due to lack of evidence and chose not to press criminal charges.
However, the civil case has now been reopened by the woman, who is seeking compensation.
Cardi B’s lawyers have responded, standing by her and calling the suit baseless.
