NIGERIA’S Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has hailed the conviction of pro-Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa by a Finnish court, stressing that sponsors of terrorism will be held accountable no matter where they are.
The Päijät-Häme District Court in Lahti, Finland, sentenced Ekpa to six years in prison after finding him guilty of terrorism-related offences linked to his push for the re-establishment of an independent Biafra state.
The prosecutor said his activities were tied to separatist efforts in Nigeria’s southeast, a region that briefly declared independence in the late 1960s.
Reacting to the judgment, General Musa described the ruling as a “landmark victory” in the global fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
In a statement released by Defence spokesperson Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Musa commended Nigerian security and intelligence agencies, law enforcement officers, and diplomats for providing the critical evidence that supported the case in Finland.
He noted that the conviction underscores the strength of international cooperation in tackling transnational threats, affirming that those who incite or fund terrorism against Nigeria will find no safe haven.
The Defence Chief also reiterated the Armed Forces’ readiness to work with global partners in dismantling terrorist networks, while urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and continue supporting security efforts against insurgency and separatist violence.
