An X (formerly Twitter) user, @MFaarees_, has called out the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for blocking him after he called on the apex bank to take appropriate action against the manner in which commercial banks and network providers are allegedly exploiting Nigerian citizens.

“Nigerian commercial banks, in collaboration with network providers, are exploiting Nigerian citizens,” @MFaarees_ wrote.
“They charge us for unsuccessful USSD transactions, which are literally their fault.
“This is unfair, and we Nigerians want it to stop! Everyone repost and tag @cenbank and other relevant authorities.”
However, attached with a screenshot of the verified X account of CBN with “@cenbank has blocked you”, @MFaarees_ later posted that the apex bank blocked him after he made ....
“So the Central Bank of Nigeria (@cenbank) blocked me simply because I asked them to take an action against the way commercial banks & network providers are exploiting us Nigerian citizens!” @MFaarees_ wrote.
“Does this mean the CBN is also with them? Who do we trust?! This is very unprofessional!”
In another post, @MFaarees_ wrote, “They blocked me because I made this post! I can’t even believe this wallahi!”
@MFaarees_ made another post where he said he might sue the CBN for blocking him just because he called on the apex bank to take action against the alleged exploitative actions of commercial banks and network providers in the country.
“I think I will sue these people! ’cause how can you block a concerned citizen fgs?
“Where do we go to if we ever feel exploited by the commercial banks? Lawyers in the house, any advice?” he wrote.
In another post, he wrote, “The forces of evil have united against the innocent citizens of Nigeria! So help us God!”
Reacting to ...s, another X user, @all_abt_alamin wrote, “When I say @cenbank is fully aware of the exploitation taking place by these so called banks and network providers you might not agree but this is a clear indication that they are part of the deal.
“Instead of coming forward to address the main issue on ground they choose to block the way. How many Nigerians will they block then, let see.”
Confirming the alleged exploitations by commercial banks and network providers, another X user, @clems4luv, wrote, “Just 2 days ago, I tried to make a transaction from my union bank using the ussd code.
“Despite failed transactions for about 6 times, @MTNNG kept deducting #6… It is truly expensive to be a Nigerian citizen.”
