Eyewitnesses claim the woman, described as fair-skinned and heavily tattooed, was apprehended by traders after she was accused of stealing the sum of N600,000 from a customer. Instead of handing her over to law enforcement, a crowd descended on her, violently stripping her naked and marching her around the busy marketplace in full public view. A viral video of the incident, which surfaced online, has sparked mixed reactions. While some condemned theft in any form, many have expressed serious concern over the humiliating and degrading treatment meted out to the woman. “This is not justice. Yes, she may have stolen, but what happened to handing her over to the police? Parading her like that is barbaric,” a concerned witness told our correspondent. Legal and human rights advocates have also weighed in, stressing that mob justice remains a criminal offense and a violation of human rights.
