Nigerian legendary singer Charles Oputa, better known as Charly Boy, has visited the newly renamed Olamide Baddo bus stop, which was initially named after him.

Kemi Filani reported in July that the Bariga Local Council Development Area had renamed the popular Charly Boy Bus Stop in Lagos after Indigenous rapper and music executive Olamide. The Chairman of Bariga LCDA, Kolade Alabi David, announced this during the inauguration of some infrastructural projects in the LCDA on Friday, July 25th.

Reacting to it, Charly described the change as interesting and reminded the public that one can rename a place but can’t rename a legacy or erase the spirit. He stated that it wasn’t about a bus stop but the fear of a boy who refused to bow, a man who challenged the oppressors, and a man who didn’t beg the system to be accepted. He noted how only timid people change their names to hide their shame.

The music icon shared a video on his Instagram page of himself visiting the renamed bus stop. He said he couldn’t help but laugh at those trying to show him power.

Despite the change, Charly said he’s still cruising through life and is not bothered by those who have a problem with him.

“My people, U can already guess where your Area Fada dey?

Olamide Baddo Bus Stop!
Yes o, na the same bus stop wey una sabi since… now na Baddo get am. Street na street, e no get age limit, abi?

I just dey inside car dey laugh yeye people wey wan show Fada power.
The Emperor of Nigeria go soon rename everywhere. Next thing, dem go name airport after one DJ, then call National Assembly ‘Comedy Central’.
Yeye dey smell.

For me? I still go dey fresh, I still dey cruise, and I still no send anybody wey no like am. Life too short to dey vex for bus stop name change, when I never chop.
Dia Father’s”.

Also, media personality, Noble Igwe, noted how Charly Boy wasn’t an ordinary figure and had earned his place in the history books. He said people don’t have to like him, but renaming a busy shop wouldn’t erase his legacy.

Recall that during the 2023 General election, Charly Boy was vocal about his disdain for APC and PDP. In an Instagram post, he vowed to relocate to Ghana and beg for citizenship if Atiku or Tinubu ended up being the President of Nigeria.

In another post, the Area Fada had vowed to walk naked on the streets of Lagos if Peter Obi emerged victorious at the election tribunal.

In other news, Charly had reacted to clergyman, Pastor Adeboye’s apology on Tithe. He stated that the clergyman’s apology didn’t mean shit unless he promised to return the tithe money.
