CHELSEA have completed the signing of Joao Pedro from Brighton, making the Brazilian the latest player they are taking from their English Premier League rivals.

The deal is reportedly worth a £55m fixed transfer fee and £5m add-ons, as Joao Pedro becomes the fifth player switching from Brighton to Chelsea in recent seasons, after Robert Sanchez, Marc Cucurella, Levi Colwill and Moises Caicedo.

“Chelsea is delighted to announce the signing of Brazil international Joao Pedro from Brighton and Hove Albion,” the London club announced today.

Joao Pedro, 23, signed a seven-year deal with the Chelsea that runs through to 2033, and joins the squad immediately ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final against Palmeiras.

“Everyone knows this is a big club with a great history,” Joao Pedro said.

“They had brilliant players in the past and have brilliant players now. So I am excited to join and you know when you are a Chelsea player you must think one thing — win.”

Joao Pedro’s first club in England was Watford, whom he joined from Fluminense in January 2020 for around £10m.

At Watford, he spent four seasons and made 109 appearances, scoring 24 goals, before making a £30m move to Brighton in 2023.

“A versatile forward, Joao brings top-flight experience having also represented Brazil on the international stage with three caps, the most recent coming in a 2–1 win over Colombia,” Chelsea added.
