The creators of Shaun the Sheep and Wallace & Gromit are back with another entry in the Chicken Run universe, and this time, it’s a video game. The cast of the classic 2000 stop-motion movie is back for another adventure in Chicken Run: Eggstraction, out today.

Created in collaboration between Aardman Animations and Outright Games, Eggstraction continues the story from the 2023 Netflix film, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. Players take control of Frizzle, Molly, Fowler, and other familiar faces (and voices!) and attempt to save chicken-kind in the “eggciting” new stealth-action adventure game in the Chicken Run universe.

The original Chicken Run captivated fans with its stop-motion animation style and heartwarming story about plucky underdogs (or, well, underchicks) taking things into their own wings and breaking away from their oppressive lives. Dawn of the Nugget continued the story with an epic escape from a high-security “farm.”

Now, Chicken Run: Eggstraction further ups the stakes as the chickens don disguises and sneak through the facilities of a nefarious corporation that’s bent on turning all of chicken-kind into chicken nuggets.

Eggstraction will be the franchise’s first foray into the video games industry in 25 years, and now is a good time to make that jump. Speaking to Screen Rant, Nick Ricks, Head of Games and Licensing at Outright Games, explained the timing: “With the 25th anniversary of the original film upon us, it felt like the perfect time to crack open a brand-new adventure in the Chicken Run universe.“

As the game’s heroes embark on daring rescue missions to free their feathered friends from nugget farms, they’re also supported by a stellar cast of voice-acting talent, including Bella Ramsey, Josie Sedgwick-Davies, Amelia Dimoldenberg, and more actors reprising their roles.

According to Ricks, “we’ve brought back incredible talent from the film, with much of the original cast returning to lend their voices, ensuring the game feels every bit a part of the Chicken Run world fans know and love.”

Friends And Family Can Join In The Fun

A stealth-based video game for a 25-year-old franchise seems like it’s catering to adults who grew up on the movie. But the game has one more thing up its feathery sleeves: a couch co-op mode. The game has been “tested extensively” on both adults and kids so that parents can share Aardman’s charming claymation creation with the fam.

Ricks promises fans that the game “delivers laughs, puzzles and challenges that younger players can enjoy.” But it doesn’t alienate adults, “offering plenty of wit and nostalgia for older fans who remember escaping Tweedy’s Farm all those years ago.” Chicken Run: Eggstraction launches today on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and PC.
