WATCH THE VIDEO HERE Super Eagles forward Chidera Ejuke is set to face stiffer competition for a starting shirt at Sevilla, following the signing of Swiss winger Ruben Vargas, Soccernet.ng reports. After a tough start to life at Sevilla, Nigerian forward Ejuke started getting minutes at Sevilla in late August. Unfortunately, he was halted in mid-October, when he suffered a hamstring injury in a La Liga game against Barcelona. That has kept the 27-year-old Super Eagles dribble wizard out of action since then, and Sevilla have struggled to pick wins. Los Nervionenses have not had it easy with absentees this season, as aside from Ejuke, other plans have spent some time on the sidelines. Meanwhile, club legend Jesus Navas retired from football in December 2024. Before his retirement, he was an option on the wings for Sevilla. With Navas’ exit, Ejuke’s major competitor for a place in the starting eleven was Dodi Lukebakio. However, the Super Eagles star now has an extra threat to worry about. According to La Cruceta, Sevilla have agreed on a deal for Swiss winger Vargas from German Bundesliga club Augsburg. ⏳ El club sigue trabajando en la delantera y… pic.twitter.com/t5zMc6ESUb — La Cruceta (@LaCruceta__) January 8, 2025 Vargas’ presence will put Ejuke on his ties, as the Nigerian will now have to produce top-notch performances to keep his place in the starting eleven. Los Nervionenses are struggling badly this season, as they sit 14th, with 22 points after 18 La Liga games. They will need to produce a strong performance in the second half of the season to climb up the table and possibly nick a finish in one of the European spots.
