The Ijesa Sports Club in Ilesa, Osun State, has suspended one of its members, Chief Gbenga Ajibade, following his alleged involvement in a poisoning incident that went viral on social media.
The suspension was announced in a statement signed by Hon. Kenneth Opebiyi, the Director of Social and Publicity of the club.
Chief Ajibade is accused of attempting to murder a fellow citizen over an allegation of maize theft. The alleged incident was captured in disturbing visuals circulated widely on platforms like Facebook.
The executive committee of the club held an emergency meeting on August 6, 2025, to address the controversy and the reputational damage it has caused.
Following a majority decision, the committee agreed to suspend Chief Ajibade pending the outcome of ongoing police investigations.
The club stated that it would initiate its own disciplinary process after the conclusion of the external investigations.
Ijesa Sports Club emphasized its commitment to upholding the values of justice, community respect, and accountability.
The club reiterated that no individual’s actions should bring shame to the institution or undermine the dignity of others.
