Chris Redd is pushing back on rumors that longtime collaborator Kenan Thompson was connected to the 2022 assault that left the comedian injured outside a New York comedy club.
Speaking to TMZ, the former Saturday Night Live cast member made it clear that Thompson was not responsible.
“Kenan did not hit me,” Redd said. “People took it like Kenan hit me. He didn’t hit me.” When asked whether he believed Thompson had any role behind the scenes, Redd shut that down as well. “Listen, man, I found out who did it,” he said. “It is what it is. That’s it.”

Redd was attacked on Oct. 26, 2022, while heading to perform at the Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village. According to police, an unknown man punched him in the nose shortly after he arrived, causing him to bleed before the assailant fled. Redd later received treatment for minor injuries at Bellevue Hospital.
The incident gained renewed attention after Redd recently revealed he is dating Thompson’s ex-wife, Christina Evangeline. Thompson filed for divorce from Evangeline in June 2022 after more than a decade of marriage, and the couple shares two daughters.
Redd has said Evangeline supported him during a difficult period while he was still on SNL. “She was the only one to call me on my s–t,” he said in a recent video. “She helped me with my therapy journey.”
