Human rights activist, Mahdi Shehu, has accused Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, of showing open bias in her charity initiatives under the Renewed Hope project.
Shehu, in a post on 𝕏 on Sunday, alleged that the First Lady’s interventions appear to favour Christian communities over Muslims, warning that such actions could deepen national divisions.
He described Mrs. Tinubu as “a seemingly biased mother” whose approach to relief distribution undermines unity.
Shehu wrote, “Her body language, her numerous charitable spendings, and her visits to disaster locations all show that the Renewed Hope project is tilted too heavily towards her Christian community.
“These open biases do not raise hopes but rather dash hopes, create more divisions and hate which ultimately destroys unity, harmony and cohesion.”
The activist claimed that states such as Benue, Plateau, Bauchi and Kogi, where Christians form a majority, have enjoyed swift visits and donations worth billions of naira from the First Lady.
By contrast, he argued, Muslim-majority states like Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina and Niger have been either overlooked or given what he described as “peanuts in cash and drops of relief.”
“Disaster victims, mostly Muslims, are watching a mother visibly tilted towards her chosen and preferred children,” Shehu added.
Backing his criticism with biblical references from Psalms 25:8 and Isaiah 32:1-5, Shehu urged the First Lady to embrace fairness and justice in her interventions.
He concluded by advising Mrs. Tinubu to reflect deeply on her role, warning that open bias in national relief efforts could undermine peace and cohesion in the country.
