Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom nicked an assist for Lille as they claimed a hard-fought 2-0 win over Angers at the Stade Raymond-Kopa, Soccernet.ng reports.

After beating Auxerre 3-1 last week, Lille returned to Ligue 1 action at Angers. And coach Bruno Genesio gave Akpom the nod to lead the attack alongside Jonathan David.

Angers were the better side at the start of the game, but Lille started to grow into it from the 10th minute. Akpom even had an opportunity to score in the box after he connected to a pass from Matias Fernandez-Pardo in the 23rd minute, but he dragged his shot wide.

Both teams did not create a lot of chances in the first half, but Lille grabbed a goal in stoppage time of the first half courtesy of Alexsandro.

Lille started the second half like a house on fire, and they got their second goal of the game just five minutes in. Akpom played a clever pass to Hakon Haraldsson in the box, the Iceland international just placed a calm finish into the goal.

That goal was just enough to seal the 2-0 win for Lille. Akpom had a very nice game before he was taken off in the 72nd minute. Whenever, he was not with the ball, he was ready to press. He even won the ball twice. His strike partner David, also had a nice game. However, unlike Akpom, he did not have a goal contribution.

What does the result do for Chuba Akpom’s Lille?

The win over Angers takes Chuba Akpom and his Lille side up to second in Ligue 1, pending the result of Marseille vs Brest. If Marseille win or draw, they will take back the second position.

Nevertheless, Lille have to keep winning games until the end of the season if they want to play Champions League football next season.
