WATCH THE VIDEO HERE The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, has raised concerns about inadequacy of courtrooms for magistrates in the State.
Alogba made this known at the opening of a two-day justice reform summit, in Ikeja. The Chief Judge said that magistrates and judges grappled with poor working conditions and inadequate welfare.
He said that situation had become concerns in addressing ineffective justice delivery. He, however, gave the assurance that proactive steps were being taken to tackle the challenges and improve the overall welfare of judicial officers and staff in Lagos State.
A participant, Mr Edward Akinlade, called for speedy dispensation of justice and end to awaiting trial syndrome. Akinlade, a businessman, said that there was need for appropriate mechanisms to ensure that criminal trials would not take too much time.
