Just about a month after the release of the audio, singer Chukwuka Chukwuma Ekweani, better known by the stage name Ckay has released the visual for his latest project, Wahala, featuring acclaimed rapper Olamide Adedeji well known as Olamide Baddo.
The music video according to the artiste, celebrates the beauty of African women. The single showcases CKay’s signature sound, infused with a captivating Spanish-influenced guitar melody by Moonesawmy Devadasen. It swirls with the sensual Latin influences that the singer has been honing since his Boyfriend EP.
Directed by Ahmed Mosh, who’s previously worked with the artiste on the visuals of Emiliana and Nwanyi among others, the just-released music video draws from the romantic expressiveness of that sound.
This familiarity with the musician creates an indelible set of montages, colorful and intense, casting CKay and Olamide in situations propelled by them as much as the models and cinematic setting they share space with. A tropical mood is created by the orange-tinted choice of lighting, notably featuring the sunset.
With the guitar-led production evoking the motion of water, the music video backdrop balances the scale of emotion on display, while the choreography introduces movement. It’s a summery composition, in sound and sensibilities, and both the director and artiste were intentional tapping into this feel.
Speaking about the music video, CKay said, “With the ‘Wahala’ music video, I aimed to celebrate the beauty of African women. My music always aims to evoke a certain feeling, and I wanted the visuals to create an environment where the music could truly flourish.”
The latest project is CKay’s second release with Olamide in two years, after 2023 Trumpet, and CKay’s third single of the year. It comes on the back of numerous chart successes the artiste has enjoyed since his international breakthrough came on Love Nwantiti.
In 2023, he released a deluxe version of his debut album Sad Romance, adding three new tracks to the project. Late last year, he surpassed one billion solo Spotify streams, marking his latest achievement in his striking repertoire as an artiste.
With CKay’s mesmerizing vocals and Olamide’s brilliant storytelling, the collaboration brings a fresh and vibrant energy to the music scene.
