The Nigerian Army has carried out a large-scale reshuffle affecting over 2,200 officers across the country.
Naijaonpoint reports that the redeployments and new appointments were approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and cover formations and units nationwide.
According to Western Post, the exercise was communicated through a restricted signal issued by the Military Secretary of the Army, Major General E. I. Okoro, on December 31, 2025.
Amendments to the original list removed 98 officers, bringing the total number of personnel affected to 2,215.
The changes include movements of 37 Major Generals, some of whom now hold new positions as General Officers Commanding in key Army divisions.
Among the new postings, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa has moved from his role as GOC of the 81 Division to serve at the Army Headquarters as Deputy Chief of Policy and Plans.
Major General Ibikunle Ajose, previously the GOC of the 8 Division in Sokoto, has been appointed Deputy Chief of Operations at the Army Headquarters.
Other key appointments include Major General B. P. Koughna, who has been named GOC of the 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2, Joint Task Force in the North-West, while Major General A. A. Babalola has been moved from Defence Headquarters to lead the 81 Division in Lagos.
The redeployment also affects 187 Brigadier Generals, 189 Colonels, 235 Lieutenant Colonels, 856 Majors, 384 Captains, 318 Lieutenants, and three Second Lieutenants.
Officers are expected to report to their new postings on the dates specified in the directive, with failure to comply subject to disciplinary measures.
A senior officer at the Army Headquarters confirmed the changes, saying that the reshuffle is part of routine efforts to strengthen the operational capability of the Nigerian Army.
An official statement from the Army’s Public Relations office is yet to be released.
