The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has tasked troops of the Nigerian Army (NA) to embrace the warrior spirit and imbibe military ethos of discipline in the conduct of efficient military operations.
Oluyede, made the call on Wednesday during a seminar at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery (NASA), Kachia, Kaduna State, on intensifying warrior ethos, post traumatic stress disorder and drug abuse organised by the Army Headquarters Department of Transformations and Innovation.
The theme of the seminar is: “From Trauma to Triumph: Building Combat Ready Warriors in the Nigerian Army”.
Oluyede, represented by the Commandant of NASA, Maj.-Gen. John Adeyemo, underscored the critical importance of warrior spirit in the success of military operations, which forms a key pillar of his command philosophy for the Nigerian Army.
He explained that the warrior spirit was indispensable to victory, fostering the belief that failure is never an option and motivating troops to persevere even under the most difficult conditions.
He noted that challenges such as post-traumatic stress disorder and drug abuse, which hinder combat readiness, were also to be addressed at the seminar, making the initiative both timely and relevant.
Oluyede emphasised that the theme of the seminar provides a vital platform for reflection and knowledge exchange to strengthen the Army’s effectiveness in combating terrorism and insurgency.
He said that in spite of the immense sacrifices of the Nigerian Army in safeguarding national peace, security, and stability, the evolving threat environment demanded a holistic approach to operations, supported by continuous learning.
He urged participants to take full advantage of the carefully selected lectures designed to stimulate curiosity, enrich knowledge, and enhance operational effectiveness, stressing the value of professional development.
The army chief commended the Chief of Transformations and Innovation for organising the seminar, acknowledging the commitment to enhancing the Army’s operational capacity, and appreciated the resource persons for sharing their expertise.
He expressed gratitude to the commandant of NASA for hosting the event, along with the staff, students, and participants of Exercise Restore Hope IX, encouraging them to seize the opportunity for deep engagement.
Oluyede also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his steadfast support and strategic guidance which had been pivotal in strengthening the Army’s capacity and successes.
Earlier, Chief of Transformation and Information Army Headquarters, Maj.-Gen. Olusegun Abai, said the event seeks to promote professionalism and operational effectiveness in the Nigerian Army.
Abai encouraged the participants to actively engage in discussions to maximise benefits from the interactive sessions.
He said the department would continue to work towards realising the pillars of the COAS Command Philosophy, ensuring the Army’s transformation and readiness.
