WATCH THE VIDEO HERE Governor Aliyu charged the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to put candidates forward for the council elections. He said officials of the Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) were all appointees of the former governor of the state, Aminu Tambuwal. The All Progressives Congress (APC) governor stated this while addressing the party’s supporters from 8 local governments of Sokoto East Senatorial zone, at Goronyo for the flag-off of the party’s campaign. Governor Aliyu explained that the accusation by the state’s PDP chapter accusing him and the party of working to manipulate the process was unfounded. “The leaders of SIEC were appointed by the immediate past administration of PDP, and I didn’t tamper with that structure. “I wonder why the PDP is afraid of participating in the polls to be organized by SIEC “I had a meeting with the Chairman of SIEC and he assured me of transparent polls, whoever wins, will be declared the winner,” the Chief Press Secretary, Abubakar Bawa, quoted Aliyu, in a statement on Sunday. On his part, former governor of the state, Senator Magatakarda Wamakko, praised Aliyu for his development projects across the state, just one year he has been in office. “Mr Governor, we are very proud of you, you have touched all the sectors of development in the state, please keep the good work,” Wamakko said. Wamakko called on Sokoto residents to see the local government elections as a means to show solidarity with Aliyu’s government.The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, has assured that the state’s local government election will be free and fair.
