Council of state passes vote of confidence on Tinubu

Additionally, the council expressed its confidence in President Bola Tinubu, recognizing his “achievements” over the past year since he took office.

In response to the recent #EndBadGovernance protests, the National Council of State condemned the demands from certain protesters calling for President Bola Tinubu’s resignation.

Attendees at the meeting included former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, while former Heads of State Generals Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar participated virtually.

The meeting was also attended by state governors, some deputy governors, ministers, former Chief Justices of the Federation, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and the National Security Adviser.

Following the meeting, Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq briefed State House Correspondents, stating that the Council commended the President for the policy decisions he has made since taking office.

He added that in a separate executive session between the governors and President Tinubu after the National Council of State meeting, the governors also expressed their confidence in the President.

The Council received updates from National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu regarding the security situation in the country and a preliminary report on the recent protests.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Dele Alake, who accompanied Governor Abdulrasaq to brief the press, described the protests as a veiled attempt to disrupt the current administration’s activities.

“The council expressed gratitude to Nigerians for resisting any unconstitutional attempts to change the government,” Alake stated.
