The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has placed a total restriction of vehicular movement on Saturday, July 12, 2025, for local government elections.
The police on Wednesday said the restriction of vehicular movement would apply to all roads and waterways within its jurisdiction.
This will happen from Saturday morning till 3pm when the polls would have been concluded.
During the period, there will not be armed escorts and security for Very Important Persons (VIPs), the indiscriminate use of sirens and covered number plates will be prohibited, all other vehicles, including those belonging to any quasi security outfit and state security agencies are barred from movement, as no state-owned security agency is authorized to participate in the election security operations, in line with the Electoral Act.
However, essential services such as those on medical emergency and other emergency responders and their workers, the duly accredited officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), and accredited election observers and media practitioners on election coverage accredited by the electoral umpire would be allowed to move with vehicles.
It was stated that all the security agencies personnel and other stakeholders, including the media and election observers accredited by LASEIC for the election will be in possession and wear their identification tags throughout the period of the exercise.
The Lagos Police Command warned “all miscreants, hoodlums, and thugs to stay away from the polling units, collations centres and other statutory places where the electoral processes are designated to take place throughout the state,” encouraging the public “to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or activities in their vicinity by promptly contacting the police via the designated emergency lines: 08063299264 or 08065154338.”
