The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, presided over by Justice Alexander Owoeye, on Thursday, halted the hearing of the case filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against Ezekiel Onyedikachi, popularly known as Eezee Tee, citing ongoing administrative procedures.

The EFCC had filed a four-count charge against Onyedikachi, alleging fraudulent conversion amounting to $340,000.

During Thursday’s proceedings, Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Chikaosolu Ojukwu and Dr. Monday Ubani, appeared for Onyedikachi, while Bilikisu Buhari represented the EFCC.

Notably, Onyedikachi, who had been absent at the previous hearing, was present in court. However, Justice Owoeye informed both parties that an administrative process related to the case was ongoing, preventing him from making any pronouncements on the matter.

“There is an administrative procedure going on in this case, and until it is completed, I cannot make any pronouncement on it,” the judge stated.

The judge also declined a request from Onyedikachi’s counsel for the parties to maintain the status quo until the administrative process was concluded.

Following this, the court adjourned the matter to May 14, 2025.

The EFCC accuses Onyedikachi, a former manager to gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, of money laundering and dishonest conversion. The charges involve allegedly withholding funds from Mercy Chinwo’s digital platforms and events.

On January 16, 2025, the EFCC secured an arrest warrant against Onyedikachi. However, the warrant was withdrawn on January 24. At the previous court sitting on February 17, the judge had ordered the defendant to appear in court for arraignment.

After the adjournment on Thursday, a dramatic scene unfolded outside the courtroom. As journalists from electronic media positioned themselves to capture images of Onyedikachi, the defendant suddenly sprinted away from the court premises.
