A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, alongside his wife and son, in the sum of ₦500 million.
Justice Emeka Nwite ruled that the defendants must provide two sureties each, with landed property located in Asokoro, Maitama or Gwarinpa.
The court directed that the property documents be verified by the deputy chief registrar, while the sureties are also required to submit affidavits of means.
The judge further ordered Malami to surrender his international passport and other travel documents to the court and barred him from leaving the country without prior approval.
Malami and his sureties were also instructed to submit two recent passport photographs each.
Pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions, Malami is to remain in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
The court scheduled February 17 for the commencement of trial on the corruption charges.
The bail conditions also apply to Malami’s son, Abdulaziz Malami, and Hajia Asabe Bashir, an employee of Rahamaniyya Properties Limited.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a 16-count charge of alleged money laundering against Malami, his son and his wife.
