WATCH THE VIDEO HERE The Constitutional Court has ruled that former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu is not eligible to contest any future elections in Zambia as presidential candidate. A panel of 6 Judges delivered the ruling this morning headed by ConCourt Hon. Justice Prof. Mulela Margaret Munalula Justice Munalula revealed that there were supposed to be seven judges on the panel but one judge is indisposed. Meanwhile, in a landmark decision, the ConCourt has ruled that former president Lungu is not eligible to contest the 2026 general election stating that, “Lungu’s first term of office constituted a term of office. The second term from 2016-2021. Lungu has therefore been twice elected and has twice held office. He is not eligible to stand in future elections.” Former president Lungu is currently drumming up support for the Tonse Alliance candidate Danstan Mwansa in the Kawambwa parliamentary by election slated for Friday, December 20, 2024. The seat fell vacant after the jailing of Nickson Chilangwa in July who until his incarceration held the Kawambwa parliamentary seat.
