Court Dissolves Nimo Town Development Union Leadership, Appoints Caretaker Committee

The ruling, initiated by plaintiffs Dr. Valentine Oliobi, Emmanuel Obiweluzor, and Ifeanyi Ajagu, appointed an eight-member caretaker committee to oversee the NTDU’s affairs until new elections are held.

The court also ordered that the former leadership, headed by Ben Anakpe, refrain from representing themselves as officers of the union.

Aguofia, the new caretaker committee chairman, emphasized the importance of adhering to the court’s decision, calling for peace and urging the people of Nimo to avoid confrontational actions. He also clarified that the intent to appeal does not equate to a formal appeal, and encouraged the residents to seek the truth as they work towards lasting peace.

“The recent court judgment has brought an end to the leadership crisis that has plagued the NTDU,” Aguofia said. “We urge all parties involved to respect the judgment and work towards a peaceful resolution. Any act of violence or disorder in Nimo Town will not be tolerated.”

He further committed to running the NTDU in a transparent and accountable manner, ensuring that the interests of all members are safeguarded.

In his message to the people of Nimo, Aguofia urged calm and wished them a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. He also warned against further occupation or lockdown of NTDU offices, describing such actions as acts of brigandage.

“Let us work together to build a peaceful and prosperous Nimo Town,” he added. “We must respect the rule of law and unite towards a common goal. I urge everyone to cooperate with the caretaker committee and support efforts to move the union forward.”

Following the court’s judgment, the NTDU administration is now under the control of the eight-person caretaker committee, as outlined by the court and in accordance with the NTDU constitution.

Additionally, the Royal Stool of Nimo has called for a suspension of all NTDU activities until further notice to ensure peace and tranquility during the festive season and beyond.
