Popular Lagos socialite and nightclub owner, Mike Nwalie, better known as Pretty Mike, has been granted bail in the sum of N50 million after being arraigned over alleged drug-related offences.
The Federal High Court in Lagos, presided over by Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa, gave the ruling on Thursday.
Pretty Mike appeared in court alongside the supervisor of his nightclub, Proxy Lagos, identified as 32-year-old Joachim Hillary.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) brought both men before the court on a three-count charge. They were accused of conspiracy, unlawful possession of drugs, and allowing the use of their club for illegal narcotic activities.
According to the NDLEA, the alleged offences took place around October 26, 2025, at the club located at No. 7, Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The agency claimed that during an operation, officers discovered 200 grams of Cannabis Sativa and 177 cylinders of Nitrous Oxide (commonly called laughing gas), weighing a total of 364.662 kilograms.
The second defendant, Hillary, was said to have been caught with the Cannabis Sativa on October 25, 2025, while Pretty Mike was accused of allowing his club to serve as a venue for drug-related activities.
Prosecuting counsel, Buhari Abdullahi, told the court that the offences violated Sections 14(b) and 20(1)(c) of the NDLEA Act and were punishable under Sections 20(2)(b) and 12 of the same law.
Both defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to all charges. Following their plea, Abdullahi requested that the court fix a date for trial.
But the defence counsel, Dr. B.S. Awosika (SAN), urged the court to grant bail on liberal terms, insisting that his clients had no prior criminal records and would be available for trial.
Awosika argued that the NDLEA had failed to provide any strong reason to deny bail, while the prosecution countered that the defendants did not provide enough facts to support their request.
In his ruling, Justice Lewis-Allagoa stated that the defendants remained innocent until proven guilty, stressing that the burden of proof lies with the prosecution.
The judge thereafter granted bail to both men in the sum of N50 million each, with two sureties in like sum, who must swear to an affidavit of means.
However, the court ordered that the defendants be released to their lawyer pending the fulfilment of their bail conditions.
The matter was then adjourned till January 14, 2026, for trial commencement.
