The National Industrial Court of Nigeria sitting in Abuja has barred the National Association of Resident Doctors and its members from going ahead with the strike they planned to begin on January 12.
Naijaonpoint reports that the order was given by Justice Emmanuel Subilim on Friday after the Federal Government, through the Attorney General of the Federation, approached the court with an emergency request.
The case is listed as NICN/ABJ/06/2026.
The judge made the ruling after hearing arguments from the Director of Civil Litigation at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Maimuna Lami Shiru, who appeared in court with a team of government lawyers.
They asked the court to prevent the strike from taking place while the main case is being considered.
Those named in the suit include the National Association of Resident Doctors, its National President, Dr. Mohammad Usman Suleman, and the Secretary General of the association, Dr. Shuaibu Ibrahim.
The court order means resident doctors are not allowed to begin the planned strike on January 12 until the matter is fully heard and decided by the court.
In other news, the medical community in Nigeria has been rocked by the tragic death of a consultant neuro-psychiatrist at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH) in Enugu, Andrew Orovwigho.
Naijaonpoint reports that Orovwigho succumbed to injuries after being kidnapped, shot, and later abandoned by his captors in a disturbing incident that has sparked widespread concern over the safety of medical professionals in the country.
Orovwigho was abducted on December 30, 2025, right in front of his house by unknown assailants.
According to reports from SaharaReporters, he was shot during the abduction.
The captors released him on January 1, 2026, but in a heart-wrenching twist, the doctor was allegedly attacked again shortly after his release.
Sources revealed that he was shot a second time and left abandoned by the roadside.
