WATCH THE VIDEO HERE A High Court in Port Harcourt has halted the zonal congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scheduled for Saturday in Calabar, Cross River State. Presided over by Justice G.V. Obomanu, the court issued an interim injunction preventing the South-South zonal congress from taking place in Cross River or anywhere else in Nigeria. The case was brought by Tony Ejiogu, a PDP member from Ward 3 in Etche Local Government Area, and Field Nkoro, a former Vice-Chairman of the Southeast PDP. Named as defendants in the suit are the PDP and Chief Dan Orbih, the party’s National Vice-Chairman for the South-South zone. In a ruling issued on Friday, the judge restrained the defendants, their agents, and privies from conducting the zonal congress on February 22 or any other date until the motion on notice is determined. The court also directed all parties to maintain the status quo ante litem as of February 20. Additionally, the court granted the claimants’ request to serve legal documents on the defendants through substituted means—either by posting them at the PDP South-South zonal headquarters in Port Harcourt or by publishing them in a widely read national newspaper. The case has been adjourned to Friday, February 28, 2025.
