WATCH THE VIDEO HERE The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the remand of one Ogechi Okeke Njaka at the Suleja Correctional Centre over allegations of distributing pornographic and derogatory content via her Facebook account. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik gave the order on Monday after Njaka pleaded not guilty to a five-count charge brought against her by the Inspector-General of Police. Following her plea, the prosecuting counsel, Victor Okoye, requested a date for trial. Njaka’s defence lawyer, Samuel Ihenseken, did not oppose the request but urged the court to grant bail to his client. Justice Abdulmalik, however, ordered that the defendant be remanded and adjourned the matter to June 5, 2025, for trial and hearing of the bail application. According to the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/02/2025, the defendant is accused of knowingly and intentionally transmitting pornographic videos through her Facebook account, “Ogechi Okeke Njaka,” from 2020 to 2025. The prosecution alleged that the videos were of an indecent nature and were disseminated with the intent to cause public disorder and threaten lives. In a separate count, Njaka is accused of circulating a video in 2020 containing derogatory comments against one Hajia Maryam Shehu while using Shehu’s image. The content, described as false, was allegedly intended to incite unrest and endanger Shehu’s life. The offences are said to contravene and are punishable under Sections 24 (1)(b) and 24 (2)(a) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015 (as amended in 2024). The case continues on June 5.
