THE Sagamu Magistrate Court in Ogun State has resumed the trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the December 29, 2025, crash that claimed the lives of two close associates of heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami.
Kayode, 46, faced a four-count charge including dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care resulting in bodily harm and property damage, and operating a vehicle without a valid national driver’s licence.
He was granted bail of ₦5 million with two sureties.
The accident occurred when the SUV collided with a stationary truck on the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Joshua and Kayode sustained minor injuries, with Joshua later discharged from hospital to continue recovery at home.
Following the tragedy, Joshua and his mother visited the Lagos funeral home to pay their respects before the remains of Ayodele and Ghami were repatriated to the United Kingdom.
A funeral prayer was held at the London Central Mosque on January 4, 2026, followed by burial at Hendon Cemetery, attended by family, friends, and supporters.
Both Ayodele, Joshua’s personal trainer, and Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, were integral members of his team.
Their deaths have reverberated across the international boxing community.
