WATCH THE VIDEO HERE The High Court of Delta State, sitting in Agbor, conducted a preliminary hearing yesterday in Suit No. AG/6/2018, brought by the Uboh (King) of Ekuku-Agbor community in Ika South Local Government Area against the Dein of Agbor Kingdom and others. The suit seeks autonomous community status for Ekuku-Agbor, asserting that historical documents and traditional evidence establish Ekuku-Agbor and Agbor as distinct communities, geographically separate and founded by different individuals at different times. Counsel for the Claimant, Kunle Edun, SAN, and counsel for the 1st, 8th, 9th, and 10th Defendants, Ken Mozia, SAN, agreed to an accelerated hearing of the case. The court adjourned the matter to May 5 and May 21, 2025, for further hearing. The Defendants had previously appealed a ruling by the trial court that dismissed their preliminary objections to the suit. The Court of Appeal in Asaba dismissed the appeal, paving the way for the current proceedings. The case continues to draw significant attention in the region as it addresses longstanding issues of community identity and autonomy in Delta State.
