Philip Olabode Aivoji, chairman of the Lagos state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has disassociated the state executive committee (SEC) from the purported inauguration of the party’s congresses committee by the Bode George group.
Speaking with journalists in Ikeja on Friday, Aivoji described the action as illegal, unconstitutional, and unauthorised by the party leadership.
He said no faction or group was authorised to carry out such an inauguration, stressing that it is the sole constitutional duty of the national working committee (NWC) and the state executive committee.
The Lagos PDP chairman urged members to ignore and discountenance what he called the unconstitutional exercise.
Aivoji said the composition and inauguration of the committee by George amounted to a “flagrant usurpation” of the constitutional duties of the party’s national and state working committees.
He added that the act was null, void, and without constitutional foundation.
Aivoji said the PDP is a law-abiding party guided by norms and customs that dictate the behaviour of members, including elders, and would not tolerate unconstitutional acts.
He urged members to remain calm and vigilant, and to await further directives from the NWC and the SEC.
