Mr Orok Duke, the Commissioner representing Cross River on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) boad, says the Nyanghasang Community Road project is not that of NDDC.
Duke said at a joint press conference in Calabar on Monday, that the road project was awarded and implemented by the Cross River Government.
He said that it was unfair to create unnecessary controversy around the ownership and implementation of the road project.
The NDDC commissioner stated that the state government had done up to stone base level before the asphalting was done by the NDDC.
Duke said that it was wrong for Sen. Asuquo Ekpenyong, the Senate Committee Chairman on NDDC to claim that the project was that of the commission.
According to him, the origin of the road project dates back to the government of the former governor, Sen. Liyel Imoke.
“NDDC projects are properly documented and budgeted for. The only project captured and inaugurated recently in the state is the 900-meter Idang Road in Calabar South.
“There is no bill of engineering measurement and evaluation, no voucher or award letter to show that NDDC implemented the Nyanghasang Road.
“Recently, Ekpeyong attempted to inaugurate the road claiming that he facilitated it through the NDDC, this is wrong and unfair,” he said.
He said that some politicians in the state were trying to undermined the developmental efforts of the Gov. Bassey Otu-led government.
Also speaking, Mr Ankpo Edet, the Commissioner for Works in Cross River, said that the Nyanghasang Road was awarded and funded by successive administrations in the state.
“The attempt to claim the project is deceptive and unfair. Records about the road project are there for everyone to see,” he said.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
