The Senator representing Cross River North senatorial district, Agom Jarigbe has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jarigbe announced his resignation from the PDP on Wednesday night after being led by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to meet with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
The lawmaker, was led to the president alongside Senator Kaila Samaila (Bauchi North) who also joined the ruling party.
Speaking shortly after the meeting with Tinubu, the Senate President stated that the lawmaker had decided to join the APC to solidify his patriotism for the country.
According to Akpabio, the two senators who recently joined the APC are President Tinubu’s offspring since he is known to be the father of the nation.
He further noted that despite winning their various seats on different political platforms, the lawmakers decided to join the ruling party to support the reforms and initiatives adopted by the president.
“They (Jarigbe and Samaila) are Mr President’s children, and they are his supporters. The president is the father of the nation and the father of all political parties.
“But interestingly, they joined the senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on different political platforms, but as a result of Mr President’s policies that have turned things around economically and particularly in terms of revenue generation for the nation, they found it expedient to come and join to build Nigeria.
“There’s nothing but patriotism. They are not interested in which political party is in power, but they are interested in who can run Nigeria, who can improve Nigeria, and who can put food on the tables of Nigerians,” the Senate President stated.
Also addressing journalists on the reason for his defection, Jarigbe said he joined the APC to help President Tinubu deliver good governance to Nigerians.
“Because the president is really doing well, and I want to come in and support him in delivering the dividends of democracy to our people,” Jarigbe said.
