Cyberpunk 2077 Reacts to GTA 6 Delay with Ironic Tweet

The news of another Grand Theft Auto 6 delay has rocked the entire gaming industry, and an official Cyberpunk 2077 account has taken the opportunity to deliver an ironic reaction. GTA 6‘s release date has now been pushed from May 2026 to November, following a previous delay from late 2025 to May 2026. Like GTA 6, Cyberpunk 2077 was a hugely anticipated and long-delayed open-world game, but the game still released in an unfinished state, with plenty of bugs and performance issues holding back the experience.

The Cyberpunk 2077 X account responded to Rockstar’s news by reposting a Cyberpunk 2077 tweet from October 6, 2020, which declared No more delays are happening.” Three weeks later, developer CDPR delayed the game again, moving it from November 19 to December 10. In re-sharing ..., CDPR appears to be lightly poking fun at the delays for both games and potentially expressing some form of solidarity with Rockstar.

Cyberpunk 2077 Shows Solidarity With GTA 6

Five years later, it’s easy to forget about the details of Cyberpunk 2077‘s delays, and a lot of comments in response to the repost don’t appear to be aware that the statement originally preceded another delay. Even if CDPR hadn’t ended up delaying the game, it would still work as an expression of support, as Cyberpunk 2077‘s famously troubled release serves as a good example of why games shouldn’t release before they’re ready.

Regardless, plenty of GTA fans are understandably frustrated at the moment, especially due to the extended development cycle of GTA 6. By the time the game releases, over 13 years will have passed since the launch of GTA 5. For comparison, GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas all released in the span of four years, although not without some infamous crunch for Rockstar developers.

GTA 6 Might Learn Some Lessons From Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 has managed to turn around player perception in the years since its disastrous launch, thoroughly patching and updating the game to deliver more of its original promise. Hopefully, GTA 6 will be in a better state by next November, but Rockstar could learn from CDPR’s example if the game disappoints at release.

Either way, the version of GTA 6 that makes it to market in November will presumably be better than whatever would have launched in May, so the delay should be a good thing overall. Perhaps the grand scale of GTA 6‘s ambition was a bad idea to begin with, but that ship has sailed. Whether a full-blown masterpiece at launch or another Cyberpunk 2077, GTA 6 still isn’t coming any time soon.
