Damon “Dame” Dash is facing some criticism after speaking out about his new artist and comparing her to his late girlfriend, R&B legend Aaliyah.
In a recent interview with The Art Of Dialogue, the music mogul introduced singer Nicky Licky with a bold statement, calling her the “white, lesbian version” of Aaliyah.
“It’s funny ‘cause… It’s like, to me, she’s like if Aaliyah was white. If Aaliyah was white, she’d be a lesbian. That’s her. And she has the same everything,” he said. “She has a little bit of rhythm too. And she can play instruments, she writes and sings. She also did a lot of administrative stuff with the album. She helped build my—she helped me with my dream. And she earned her way into the band by working with the band.”
Dash’s comparison came as high praise, crediting Nicky with a vibe and aesthetic reminiscent of the late R&B superstar. The singer, however, looked taken aback by the comment, as you can see in the clip below.
Nicky Licky is featured alongside Dash’s rock group, The Black Guns, on their album 365. According to Dash, she’s also set to join him on tour in September 2025.
During the candid chat, Dash also opened up about his dental struggles following a viral moment when his teeth flew out of his mouth mid-rant.
