The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced that its long-awaited free fuel distribution scheme will commence on Monday, September 15, 2025, starting with Lagos, other South-West states, the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Delta, Rivers and Edo.

Group spokesman, Anthony Chiejina, confirmed the development in a statement made available to Punch on Thursday.

“We are starting the free fuel distribution scheme on Monday. We will start with Lagos and the South West, Abuja, Kwara, Delta, Rivers and Edo States. There will be a drop in price effective on Monday when the free distribution starts,” Chiejina said.

Alongside the rollout, the refinery announced a reduction in pump prices of petrol.

According to the statement, petrol will sell for ₦841 per litre in Lagos and the South-West and ₦851 per litre in Abuja, Edo, Kwara, Rivers and Delta States.

The refinery stated that the price cut would take effect on the same day the free fuel program begins.

The scheme was initially scheduled to begin in August but was delayed due to logistics challenges in China.

Punch learnt that over 1,000 trucks have now been received by the refinery to aid the distribution exercise, with more states expected to be included as additional trucks arrive in Nigeria.

In a related development, Dangote disclosed that it had embarked on a 10,000 Compressed Natural Gas-powered truck roll-out this year to cut logistics costs and strengthen domestic fuel distribution.

“Even though we recently noticed how the CNG prices doubled a week ago, that will not deter our 10,000 CNG truck roll-out this year,” the company stated.
