Dangote Refinery rebuts claims of inability to meet local fuel demand

Officials of the refinery assert that the facility produces enough fuel to satisfy local needs and export to other countries.

This comes after the Executive Secretary of the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN), Olufemi Adewole, claimed that the refinery has not been able to meet even the current reduced local consumption needs.

Adewole argued that private depot owners continue to bear the bulk of the fuel distribution burden across the country.

However, a senior official of the Dangote refinery disputed these claims, stating that the refinery loads out millions of litres of fuel every day for both local consumption and export.

The official attributed the discrepancy in local consumption figures to manipulation over the years, particularly during the fuel subsidy regime.

The refinery’s officials also welcomed President Bola Tinubu’s decision to stop importing goods that can be produced locally, seeing it as a step towards growing the economy.

They warned, however, that importers might try to frustrate this policy.

The dispute highlights the ongoing tensions between the Dangote refinery and oil marketers, with each side presenting differing views on the refinery’s capacity to meet local demand.
