Dangote Speaks on Ruth Otabor’s Death After Fatal Truck Accident in Edo State

The Dangote Group has broken its silence following the tragic death of Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, who died from injuries sustained in a road accident involving one of the company’s trucks in Auchi, Edo State.

In an official statement released on Sunday, August 31, 2025, the company expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the Otabor family.

Dangote Confirms Support for Ruth Otabor’s Treatment

According to Dangote Group, since the accident occurred, the company’s officials and insurance partners had been actively involved in covering medical bills and providing financial support to the Otabor family.

The statement revealed that plans were underway to fly Ruth abroad for advanced medical treatment in India, pending her doctors’ clearance. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries before the travel arrangement could be finalized.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ruth Otabor, who was injured in the recent road incident involving one of our trucks in Auchi, Edo State. On behalf of the entire Dangote Group, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time,” the company said.

The Dangote Group reassured Nigerians that safety and accountability remain central to its operations, while also stressing the need for compassion in moments of tragedy.

The death of Ruth Otabor has sparked an outpouring of grief, especially from fans of her elder sister, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor (Phyna), who has been visibly devastated by the tragic loss. Messages of support and condolences have continued to pour in across social media platforms.
