Enugu was thrown into mourning on Wednesday after a Dangote truck was involved in a ghastly accident at Ozalla Four Corner Junction along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, leaving several people dead and many others injured.
An unconfirmed number of victims, including some staff of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) and members of a family, were reportedly killed in the crash. A trending video from the scene shows a vehicle completely crushed under the weight of the Dangote trailer.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that an entire family traveling in one of the vehicles was wiped out. “None of them came out alive,” a visibly shaken witness said.
The collision also involved two commuter buses, one of which somersaulted. Several passengers sustained injuries of varying degrees. While corpses of the deceased were deposited at UNTH, the survivors were rushed to the same hospital for urgent treatment.
This tragic accident adds to the growing number of fatal crashes linked to Dangote trucks across Nigeria. Only weeks ago, a Dangote truck struck Ruth Otabor, the sister of Big Brother Naija winner Phyna, in Edo State, leading to her death.
In April 2024, another Dangote truck rammed into a Toyota Hiace bus on the Okene–Lokoja highway, killing 19 passengers.
