Dave Bautista is facing down a ruthless cartel in his new action movie Trap House, but a group of teens is quietly aiming to rob them before they’re wiped out. Reuniting Bautista with Stuber director Michael Dowse and co-written by Fast and Furious creator Gary Scott Thompson, the film is led by the Dune vet as Ray Seale, an undercover DEA agent who, along with a team of fellow undercover specialists, works in El Paso, Texas to take down a cartel working along their Mexico border.
All the while, the specialists’ kids, teenage friends attending the same high school, find themselves at a loss when one of their group moves away after the death of their parent on a mission. As he and his family struggle to adjust to their new situation, Ray’s son Cody comes up with a plan to use their parents’ DEA intel to rob local cartel spots, putting them and their parents in a dangerous game of cat and mouse.
Ahead of the film’s November 14 release, ScreenRant is proud to exclusively present a new Trap House clip and poster. The video sees Cody, played by Avatar vet Jack Champion, gathering the rest of the teenage group, including IT‘s Sophia Lillis, Hocus Pocus 2‘s Whitney Peak, and Senior Year‘s Zaire Adams, to pitch them his plan to rob the titular locale in an effort to help support their moved-away friend. We’re also excited to debut the new poster for the film, offering a stylish look at one of the group’s heists in the film, and some of the movie’s other cast, including Bad Boys for Life‘s Kate del Castillo, which can be viewed below:
While there have been a variety of crime thrillers with teenagers at the forefront, Trap House certainly looks to offer a different kind of heist movie with its young cast going up against the cartel. Not since the likes of the Kristen Stewart-led Catch That Kid from the early 2000s, or Robert Rodriguez’s Spy Kids franchise, has a movie really seen teen characters voluntarily entering a high-stakes world such as this film’s, particularly once the cartel actually get wind of their actions and retaliate.
The clip itself offers a nice tease of what the dynamics among the young Trap House cast will be. Champion, who is also about to return to the big screen in December with Avatar: Fire and Ash, is clearly aiming for the leadership spot of the group, while Lillis, in her first major action genre role since Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, looks to be that of the tactical expert, Peak being their voice of reason, and Adams something of a wild car.
For Bautista, Trap House also marks a pretty substantial film in a few ways. In addition to being his final release of the year, it’s also the third movie of his he’s had a producing hand on after the George R.R. Martin adaptation In The Lost Lands and J.J. Perry adaptation of Afterburn. Unlike those, however, Bautista has been with Trap House since its inception, making its release one of his biggest yet as a producer, and one that, if successful on its November 14 release, could build into a franchise.
