The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) has unveiled the official list of nominees for its 2025 edition.
Naijaonpoint reports that the nominees include established performers such as Davido, Burna Boy, Fally Ipupa, El Grande Toto, DJ Maphorisa, and Amr Diab.
Rising artistes like Shallipopi, Himra, Moliy, Ayra Starr, Juma Jux, and Senegal’s Mia Guissé are also in the running, creating a mix of veteran and new acts.
This year, AFRIMA received a record-breaking 10,717 entries, the highest in the award’s 12-year history.
A 13-member jury spent ten days reviewing submissions and selected 343 nominees across 40 categories, covering music from Africa and its diaspora.
Burna Boy and Davido lead Nigeria’s nominations with five each. Both are nominated for Album of the Year, Burna Boy for No Sign of Weakness and Davido for 5ive.
Their hit songs also earned recognition in the Song of the Year and Best Collaboration categories.
Shallipopi received four nominations, including Artiste of the Year and Song of the Year for his track Laho.
Ayra Starr received two nominations and will compete for Artiste of the Year alongside Davido, Burna Boy, and Morocco’s El Grande Toto.
Other top nominees include South Africa’s DJ Maphorisa, Morocco’s El Grande Toto, Senegal’s Mia Guissé, and Ghana’s Moliy, each with five nominations.
Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz, South Africa’s Tyla, and Eswatini’s Uncle Waffles earned four nominations apiece.
Artistes from the African diaspora also feature prominently. French-Malian singer Aya Nakamura, UK-based Darkoo, and Canadian-Congolese Deborah Lukalu are among the female nominees. Male nominees include DJ Snake, Tayc, and Niska.
AFRIMA 2025 will take place in Lagos from November 25 to 30.
Events include the AFRIMA Music Village, Africa Music Business Summit, Nominees Party, and the grand finale on November 30, which will be broadcast to over 84 countries.
