Mega Afrobeats singer David Adeleke aka Davido has announced his decision to join the Accord Party, signaling a new phase in his political alignment ahead of activities in Osun State.
The singer made the disclosure in a post on X on Tuesday, saying he would be in Osogbo to formally pick up his membership card.
“I will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card @IMOLE HOUSE OSOGBO tomorrow… see you soon ACCORDINGLY,” Davido wrote, tagging Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Davido has long been politically associated with his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who until recently was a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The musician openly supported Adeleke’s governorship campaigns under the PDP and has frequently appeared at political rallies and events linked to his uncle.
Governor Adeleke, however, recently dumped the PDP after weeks of speculation about his political future.
About a week after leaving the party, he formally joined Accord Party as his new political platform and confirmed he would seek a second term as Osun State governor under its banner.
Speaking at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Osogbo, Adeleke said he joined the Accord Party on November 6 after consultations with stakeholders and opinion leaders across the state.
“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago precisely November 6th as a platform to seek re-election in 2026,” the governor said.
He explained that the decision was driven by his administration’s desire to complete ongoing projects and sustain what he described as good governance in the state.
Davido’s support is seen as signal that the Governor’s loyalists will jump ship with him as re-election beckons.
Meanwhile, a tussle for the party leadership has ramped up with former presidential candidate and factional national chairman Chris Immumolen refuting Adeleke’s choice as the party’s flag bearer.
