Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has stirred excitement among his fans after announcing his meeting with French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The award-winning singer took to his official 𝕏 handle on Thursday to share photos from the engagement, describing it as an honour.
His post read, “It was an honour meeting #EmmanuelMacron and sharing our visions for a better world.”
Although Davido did not give further details of the discussion, the meeting is seen as another boost for cultural diplomacy between Nigeria and France.
Macron has consistently shown interest in Africa’s creative and entertainment industries.
Back in 2018, the French leader paid a historic visit to the Afrika Shrine, home of the late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti, which he described as “an iconic centre for the propagation of African culture, strength and music.”
The latest meeting with Davido appears to reinforce Macron’s cultural outreach agenda, particularly with Nigeria’s booming Afrobeats scene gaining global attention.
BusinessDay recently reported that Lagos recently hosted some of Africa’s brightest creative minds during the Création Africa Forum, which showcased innovations in digital fashion, gaming, animation and immersive technologies.
The forum, curated by Maison des Mondes Africains under the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, aims to deepen collaboration and investment in Africa’s digital and creative industries.
